Osun Election: Accord Calls for Investigation Into Alleged Intimidation of Supporters

The Accord Party has called on security agencies to investigate alleged threatening statements circulating ahead of the Osun governorship election.

The party made the request in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe.

According to Accord, the call followed the circulation of a social media video which the party claimed contained statements capable of threatening its members and supporters.

Party Raises Concern Over Political Tension

The party alleged that the incident was part of a wider pattern of political pressure and intimidation affecting some of its supporters in parts of Osun State.

Accord urged relevant security agencies to examine the video and take necessary action if investigations establish that any offence was committed.

“Accord is preparing for an election, not war. No political ambition is worth the blood of fellow citizens,” Omorogbe said.

The party stressed that political competition should be conducted peacefully and within the framework of democratic principles.

Accord Appeals Over Alleged Detention of Members

The party also called for the release of more than 60 members it alleged were being detained in Abuja and Nasarawa State.

Accord claimed the individuals were being held in a manner that could prevent them from participating in the electoral process.

The party appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to provide adequate security arrangements before the election.

International Observers Urged to Monitor Poll

Accord also called on international organisations, including the European Union, United States, United Kingdom, African Union and ECOWAS, to pay attention to developments surrounding the election.

The party encouraged voters to participate peacefully and support its candidate during the governorship poll.

It urged all political actors and stakeholders to prioritise peace, fairness and respect for democratic processes.
