Oronsaye: Court grants EFCC leave to regularise process

An FCT High Court on Thursday adjourned the allegation of breach of trust against Stephen Oronsaye, a former Head of Service of the Federation, till June 3.
Justice Olasumbo Goodluck said that the adjournment was to allow the Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Salisu Abubakar, to regularise his additional evidence and amend his charges.
At the last sitting, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought two witnesses, Blaze Jacobs, Deputy Director, Risk Management, Central Bank of Nigeria.
The other witness was, Jalal Arabi, Secretary to the Committee, Presidential Committee on Financial Action Task Force headed by Oransaye.
Abubakar had applied for admission of his further amended charges and additional proof of evidence in accordance with Section 216 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
He said that the processes were filed on April 28 and that the additional charges were five in addition to the two previous ones, all bordering on breach of trust.
The prosecution said that there was also a second additional proof of evidence which he wished to apply orally.
Oronsaye’s Counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not oppose the application.
Agabi rather prayed the court for extension of time to study the second additional proof of evidence which was served on the defendant’s legal team only on Wednesday.
Goodluck then granted the prosecution leave to regularise, file and serve the document and attach the exhibit to the second additional proof of evidence.
