*APC will take over Abia in 2027

By Tunji Ajibade

The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly and two-term former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has issued a strong warning against the growing trend of over-hyping Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.
Kalu, who governed the state between 1999 and 2007, declared that the current governor is not performing any extraordinary feats that justify the widespread praise and excitement surrounding his administration.
The former governor insisted that his own record as governor remains unmatched and easily verifiable. He pointed out that during his eight-year tenure, he delivered an array of developmental projects across the state — records of which, he said, are there for anyone who cares to check.
In a pointed comparison of the state’s finances, Kalu noted the massive improvement in revenue inflows under the present dispensation. “What is coming to the purse of Abia State now is far, far more than what I was receiving as governor,” he stated categorically.
He went further to make a bold political forecast, declaring without mincing words that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over the reins of power in Abia State in the 2027 governorship election.

Kalu’s remarks have stirred fresh debate in Abia’s political circles, coming at a time when stakeholders continue to weigh the performance of the Otti-led administration against the expectations of residents.
The senator, who now serves as a ranking member of the APC, appears determined to rally support for his party’s takeover bid while defending his legacy as a former governor.

The comments have already drawn reactions from supporters of the current governor, who argue that Otti’s reforms speak for themselves. However, Kalu remains firm in his position that the hype around the incumbent is overstated and that Abia’s future lies with the APC come 2027.
