The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has described as untrue reports in some sections of the media alleging that one of the men arrested by the Police in connection with the kidnap of Mrs. Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, former Power Minister, Bayo Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons in Ibadan, is its member.

OPC said the person in question does not belong to any of its units or zones in Oyo State.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, the OPC said its attention had been drawn to the wrong assertion by ALAROYE, a Yoruba news platform.

It called on the management of the media organisation to retract the false assertion, and to prevail on its staff members to desist from further making such unfounded claims, noting that this marked the second time that ALAROYE will be making false claims about the OPC.

Oguntimehin warned journalists and bloggers against the publication of untrue and unverified information, capable of bringing the good image of the organisation into disrepute.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no OPC member was involved in the Ibadan kidnap incident. The information being peddled is a figment of the imagination of the media platform,” he said.

Oguntimehin said it was important that media practitioners continue to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties while also refusing to be used by persons out to spread falsehood.

He urged journalists, bloggers and online publishers to desist from spreading unverified information that could mislead people and negatively affect ongoing investigations into the case by law enforcement agencies.

Mrs. Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of Adelabu, and her twin children were abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Ibadan.

After their rescue on June 6, the Police paraded four suspects arrested in connection with the abduction.
