The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has praised the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security to President Bola Tinubu, calling it a well-deserved recognition of his years of service and professional excellence.

In a statement signed by Mr. Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, the monarch congratulated Famadewa on the new role, emphasizing that the appointment was a reflection of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Ooni noted that Famadewa’s decades of dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice in the military had earned him this significant national recognition. While extending his heartfelt congratulations, Oba Ogunwusi encouraged the retired military officer to continue to represent Ile-Ife with pride and distinction in his new role.

“You are indeed a proud son of Ile-Ife, and your remarkable service to the nation has brought honour and pride to the Source,” Ogunwusi said.

The monarch also commended President Tinubu for selecting Famadewa for this important position, expressing confidence in his ability to leverage his extensive experience in intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism, and national security management to fulfill the duties of the office effectively.

Oba Ogunwusi further praised Famadewa for his invaluable contributions to the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), a collaborative intelligence-sharing platform involving key security agencies, including the DSS, NIA, DIA, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

The Ooni highlighted that Famadewa’s over 30 years of military experience, coupled with his service as Principal General Staff Officer to the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, had thoroughly prepared him for the challenges of his new appointment.

In his remarks, the Ooni described Famadewa as a disciplined officer and strategic thinker whose research and policy contributions after retirement have continued to influence discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation, and security sector reforms in Nigeria.

The traditional ruler prayed for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance for Famadewa as he takes on the new responsibility and encouraged him to remain steadfast in his service to Nigeria while making Ile-Ife and the Yoruba race proud.
