*Keep our tradition alive, Laagba Egba, Chief Amusan, advises

Eight years after the transition of Oloye Abeni Durowoju, the Iyalode Oje of Ibara Kingdom in the Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun state, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jacob Olufemi Omolade, the Onibara of Ibara, has blessed the installation of Oloye Yombo Funke Dahunsi as the new Iyalode Oje of the kingdom.

Performing the rites according to the monarch’s directive, the Laagba Egba, Chief Gbenga Amusan (a.k.a. Agbomola), who last week installed the new Iyalode, opined that many evil and negative things are happening in the society these days because traditional practices which are the guiding principles of humanity are no longer given their pride of place.

Before the new Iyalode Oje was installed at the Oke Ile Aro Shrine, she was reminded of how her late grandmother and predecessor, Oloye Abeni Durowoju (84), held and maintained the position to the benefit of her subjects and peaceful advancement of the Ibara kingdom, while charging her not to debase the legacy during her own reign.

The Laagba Egba urged Nigerians to keep the ethos of traditional practices alive in all their dealings, noting that non adherence to them is the main cause of negative acts like corruption, ritual killing, rape, and other social vices being witnessed in oir societies these days.

Accompanied by the Laagba Ibara, Oloye Tunde Fagbohun, and many other notable chieftaincy title holders in the state, Chief Amusan counselled Oloye Yombo to strive to champion and enshrine such qualities in her subjects in order to stave off bad practices that are capable of eroding humanitarian principles in her domain.

Responding, Iyalode Ibara thanked the Onibara of Ibara for approving and blessing her installation; as well as the traditional leaders and her subjects, for honoring the event with their presence. She paid glowing tributes to her predecessor, Chief Sunday Kehinde, who had been holding forth since the demise of the late Iyalode, promising not to let all of them down.

Her words: “I am indeed excited to be installed the new Iyalode Oje of Ibara in Abeokuta, Ogun State. I thank specially our Kabiyesi, the Onibara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Olufemi Omolade, who allowed this installation and gave it royal blessing. I will always abide by her counsel and directive. May his reign continue to be peaceful. I thank all his representatives who performed the installation. I thank Chief Kehinde who has been holding forth for the past eight years before I took up this responsibility.

“I appreciate all Ibara sons and daughters at home and in the Diaspora. I promise to always put their well-being as the highest priority in my heart. I will continue to uphold the tradition of my people. I will not allow any act that can bring our tradition to disrepute. May Ibara and Egbaland in general continue to witness peace and tranquility during my time”, she prayed.
