Newly-promoted Ikorodu City FC, on Saturday, secured their first victory of the six-week-old Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after whitewashing Bendel Insurance 3-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The team after five matches stayed bottom of the table after four loses and a draw, with their coach, Bright Ozebagbe, leaving the saddle after recording three back-to-back defeat against Rangers, Nasarawa United and Plateau United.
However, despite not having a substantive coach, the Lagos-based club showed class in the win against Insurance, outclassing their opponents in every area of the game and should have scored more than the three goals recorded in the game.
Rivio Ayemwenre put the Oga Boys ahead just three minutes into the second half before a brace from Kelechi Onwe in the 55th and 73rd minute of the game respectively to secured their first win and second clean sheet of the season to move away from the bottom of the table.
Also on Saturday, Sunshine Stars shined over defending champion of the league, Rangers International of Enugu, winning their MatchDay 6 game 1-0 at their adopted home, the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Matches continue on Sunday across various centres in the country with Enyimba hoping to maintain their good run when they meet Shooting Stars of Ibadan at the Lekan Salami Stadium Ibadan.
Remo stars will be at home against Nasarawa United while Kwara United will be the guest of Abia Warriors.
