An unidentified person was burnt beyond recognition while three others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident which occurred along Ilesa-Akure-Owo Expressway at Butcher area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday night.
The accident, which happened at about 10p.m., involved a loaded J5 Peugeot bus and a Honda Accord saloon car, both of which got burnt completely.
According to an eyewitness, both vehicles had a head-on-collision as the bus, which was heading towards the Northern part of the country, collided with the car coming from the opposite direction.
The eyewitness narrated that after colliding with the car, the bus tumbled and caught fire immediately in the middle of the road, extending the fire to the car after some minutes.
It was gathered that of the three occupants of the bus, the driver and one other person managed to escape while the unknown third occupant was unlucky as he was trapped in the bus while the driver of the car also escaped with serious injured.
It was like a drama when men of Ondo State Fire Service got to the scene to put out the fire, as they were warned not to alight from their vehicle by youths of the area who were angrily lambasting them for coming late to the scene after several distressed calls had been put to them immediately the fire started.
Those injured were taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Akure for treatment by men of the sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
In his reaction to the incident, the Head of Operations of FRSC in the state, Mr Sunday Ajayi, who confirmed the incident, appealed to motorists to always drive carefully and adhere to traffic rules and regulation.
