Cultists were on the rampage in Agbowo area of Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday night, killing one person and injuring scores.
Freedom Online learned that the clash was between two cult groups, ‘Eye Confronting’ and ‘Black Axe’.
Guns, machetes and knives were freely used during the clash.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident.
He revealed that a leader of the Black Axe, identified as Sunday John, was arrested at a private hospital where he was being treated for the injuries he sustained during the clash.
The clash was so severe that residents in far-away areas, such as Ajibode, Mokola, Ojo had to run for dear lives. Hoodlums seized the opportunity to loot.
Meanwhile, the campaign office of the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, was attacked on Wednesday night by thugs.
The Alao-Akala Campaign Organisation, which confirmed the attack, described it as provocative.
Windows of the Destiny House office were shattered.
Director-General of the organisation, ‎Dr Kola Balogun, said it was unfortunate that the Governor Abiola Ajimobi administration is now resorting to crude tactics in the build up to the April 11 election.
“It is highly provocative. This is the third time in the last few weeks that opposition stalwarts will attack Labour Party’s materials or persons. We have reported all these incidents to the police and they have said they are investigating” Balogun said.
