Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Branch, have declared an indefinite strike over alleged unpaid salaries by the state government.

The strike action commenced following the resolution reached at the union’s congress held on Friday over the non-payment of May and June salaries.

The Chairman of ASUU, AAUA Branch, Prof. Boluwaji Oshodi, while speaking in Akure, confirmed that the union has formally notified the university’s management of its decision.

According to him, the resolution reached at the congress reaffirmed the union’s earlier decisions of April 28 and June 18, 2026, to withdraw academic services over the non-payment of salaries.

“The ground for the total and indefinite strike is that we have not been paid May and June salaries.

“Our members have been directed to suspend all academic activities until the two months salaries are fully paid.

“We have a standing National Executive Council (NEC) resolution that if by the third of the next month, the previous month’s salary is not paid, we are going to declare an industrial action.

“You know, we still waited for May, we waited for June, and for June, we waited until the 10th of June, which is today, before we declared the action.

Oshodi blamed the state government for not fulfilling its obligations, especially funding, to the university.

“The problem is not with the management; the problem is with the Ondo State Government that refused to fund the university adequately,” the ASUU chairman said.

Efforts to get the university’s spokesperson, Mr Victor Akinpelumi, for comments were unsuccessful.
