The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Amos Paul, for allegedly assaulting his 10-year-old daughter in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday in Akure.
Jimoh said the suspect, who is from Unaun, Upenme in Owo Local Government Area, was accused of using a heated laundry iron to injure the child.
According to the police, the alleged assault was linked to claims that the girl had been bedwetting.
The incident was reported to the police on Thursday.
Jimoh said the victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for treatment.
Following the report, detectives from “A” Division, Owo, were deployed to the scene.
The police said the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
Jimoh added that the case would be transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further action in line with established procedures.
He urged members of the public to report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and related offences to the nearest police station.
The police spokesperson assured residents that the command would continue to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, violence and exploitation.
