Former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released in Asaba, Omo-Agege said his decision followed wide consultations with stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters across the eight local government areas of Delta Central.
He described the move as a response to calls from constituents urging him to return to the Senate and continue representing the interests of the Urhobo Nation.
According to him, the decision was reached after careful reflection and guided by a sense of responsibility to serve.
Omo-Agege emphasised that his ambition is not personal but aimed at strengthening Delta Central’s voice in national policymaking.
He stressed the importance of experienced and effective representation, noting that the region requires a strong and influential presence in the National Assembly.
Reflecting on his previous tenure between 2015 and 2023, the former lawmaker highlighted several projects he facilitated, including the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic, a National Defence Space School, and an oil and gas industrial park in the region.
He also listed other interventions such as healthcare facility upgrades, ICT centres, electrification projects, transport infrastructure, and empowerment programmes.
Omo-Agege pledged to prioritise legislative impact, promising to sponsor and drive bills that would directly benefit his constituents if elected.
He outlined key focus areas, including improved infrastructure, access to quality education, better healthcare, and enhanced security.
On economic development, he said he would push for increased support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), artisans, and agro-based businesses to create employment opportunities.
The former deputy senate president also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu, describing ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda as necessary for long-term economic stability.
He noted that Delta Central stands to benefit from continued federal investment due to its strategic importance in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Omo-Agege further called for unity within the APC in Delta State, urging party members to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said collective efforts and internal cohesion would be key to achieving electoral success.
