Omisore

iyiola_omisoreGov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has described a former deputy governor of Osun, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, as “a grossly misunderstood politician’’.

The governor made the observation in Osogbo on Saturday night at the 29th International Conference dinner of the Multiple District 404 Nigeria of the Lions Club International; where he was a special guest.

Omisore was awarded the “Melvin Jones Fellow Award’’ — the highest award category in the honours list of Lions Club International.

Mimiko said that he had all along known Omisore as a silent philanthropist.

“It is just unfortunate that you are a misunderstood politician,’’ he said, adding: “I am sure that in the nearest future, history will vindicate you.’’

Speaking with journalists after the award, Omisore said that he was surprised that the Lions Club International had a record of some of his “silent philanthropic gestures’’.

He pledged that with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, he was inspired to do more for the less-privileged members of the society.

“It is one of the silent parts of my service to humanity that Lions Club International has exposed,’’ he said.

Omisore donated N5 million to the Lions Club International to execute some of its projects.
