Governor Monday Okpebholo has denounced the recent assault on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin, describing the incident as unacceptable.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, the governor expressed sympathy with the affected party members and reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for political violence.
Okpebholo stressed that political activities should centre on ideas, performance and engagement with citizens rather than intimidation or disruption. He called on residents of Edo State to remain calm and uphold the peaceful reputation of the state.
He also directed security agencies, including the police, to intensify monitoring of political events to prevent further disturbances and ensure public safety.
The governor warned that individuals or groups attempting to destabilise the state would face the full weight of the law.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Tuesday, when suspected thugs allegedly attacked the ADC secretariat, damaged property and injured some party members.
