Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would conquer all the five states in the South-East in the 2015 general elections.
The five states in the zone are Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.
The governorship election in Anambra will hold in November.
Okorocha said contrary to the rumour being peddled that the party is factionalised in the zone, “we continue to remain stronger and stronger everyday”.
He spoke after a two-day strategic meeting of the party at the Odenigbo Presidential Lodge, Government House, Owerri.
Okorocha said: “Unity of Imo APC has been signed, sealed and delivered. The party is battle ready to conquer South-East come 2015 elections”.
Okorocha averred that he could now redirect his energy in governance as he would be supported by party leaders such as former Governor Achike Udenwa.
On the Anambra governorship election, he said that Senator Chris Ngige would win the polls.
Speaking earlier, Udenwa averred that the rumour making the rounds that he had an axe to grind with Okorocha “is a lie”.
“I want to assure you that APC has actually come together in Imo State. It is a rumour that Governor Okorocha and I have differences. It is a lie. Whenever you want to start something new, you can agree with me that it is not always easy. You can agree with me that the most difficult part of the building is the foundation. The meeting we had last night, which ended today has been able smoothen some rough edges and set up a real structure. I can assure you that with what we have done in this state, we will beat all our detractors hands down. I am sure that APC is the party to beat in Imo State, considering the personalities in the party and how grassrooted we are. We have one APC. It is the only party that has structures everywhere.
“I am sure that we shall form the government at the National level. APC has good programme. We have our manifesto. We have solutions to the real problems in Nigeria. We have given PDP 14 years and they have failed the nation. I call on all to join hands to see what APC has for the country. I am also sure that you can attest to the fact that Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha is doing well”.
National Organising Secretary of APC, Senator Osita Izunaso, said that APC, in the resolution rising from the meeting, set up a State Harmonisation Committee and appointing Chief Mashal Okoroafor-Anyanwu as the Coordinator.
“This decision will be ratified by the National Headquarters in Abuja for the committee to start work in earnest”.
He also said Udenwa remains the Leader of the party’s Elders in Council.
