United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has introduced an innovation in Card PIN management which allows customers of the bank immediately select their Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) for their Debit Cards.

This eliminates the current process of handing out PINs in sealed mailers.

This development underscores the bank’s commitment to enhancing customer experience without compromising security.

With this development, customers are able to receive their cards and activate them immediately.

The new UBA Instant PIN initiative allows customers to select a PIN of their choice, using a specialised POS at any UBA Business Office or UBA ATMs.

Specifically, all eligible Debit Cards such as the MasterCard, MasterCard Verve and Verve Debit Card will no longer have the physical PIN mailers printed anymore.

The platform will also be used for all walk-in customers who have forgotten their PIN and require a PIN re-issue.

Explaining the benefits of the new PIN selection process, Dr. Yinka Adedeji, Divisional Head, e-Banking, UBA Plc., said it is safe and more efficient.

“As long as the customer has a UBA Debit Card, PIN change can be done at anytime.  Also, the process is safer because the Customer is physically present and the code is sent via SMS to the registered mobile phone number,”

Adedeji said the bank is already in the process of implementing the instant PIN solution across all 19 African countries where UBA is present.

UBA remains dedicated to card security by deploying best in class technology to safeguard customers’ card details, transactions and ultimately, their funds.

All UBA cards are secured with the MasterCard SecureCode, Verified by Visa and the Verve SafeToken.

It will be recalled that the bank recently launched a state of the art Security Operations Centre to protect its customers from cyber-crime and the activities of fraudsters.

The Security Centre enables the cank monitor all electronic banking activities of its customers round the clock.

The UBA Group remains a highly diversified financial services provider, a leading player in three  markets and controlling significant market share in 19 African countries. The Group has a strong retail franchise across the continent offering its customers a bouquet of products and services tailored to meet their diverse financial needs.

The UBA Group also has offices in New York, Paris and London.
