The Federal Capital Territory chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Ginika Florence-Tor as a member of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
The organisation described the appointment as an indication of the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive leadership, merit and wider regional representation.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT President, Andrew Ugwu, spoke during a media interaction held on the sidelines of a homecoming reception organised for Tor in Abuja on Saturday.
Ugwu said the appointment had strengthened confidence among members of the South-East community and demonstrated that qualified professionals from the region could contribute to national governance.
He praised what he described as President Tinubu’s efforts to increase South-East participation in federal institutions through appointments, policies and development programmes.
According to Ugwu, Tor’s experience in public service and leadership made her suitable for the responsibilities of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
He said members of the Igbo community were grateful that the president considered one of their own for the national assignment.
Ugwu also pointed to ongoing federal road projects across the South-East as evidence of what he described as the administration’s attention to the region.
He, however, appealed to President Tinubu to increase federal interventions and development projects in the zone.
The Ohanaeze leader expressed confidence that Tor would contribute meaningfully to the commission’s work of developing fair, sustainable and equitable wage and income policies.
He also congratulated her on an international award she recently received in Liberia.
Tor, who is also Chairperson of the Igbo Project Team 2026, was described by Ugwu as a dedicated and experienced public servant.
He said both the international recognition and her new federal appointment reflected her professionalism, leadership record and commitment to service.
Ugwu pledged the continued support of the FCT Igbo community for initiatives promoting national unity, inclusive development and equal opportunities for Nigerians.
Responding, Tor thanked President Tinubu for appointing her to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
She said the announcement came as a surprise and described the opportunity to serve as humbling.
Tor disclosed that she was in Liberia to receive an award when congratulatory messages and telephone calls alerted her to the appointment.
She also thanked members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT, the Omalaegwuoku group, journalists and supporters who welcomed her at the airport.
Tor said the appointment represented another opportunity to serve Nigeria after completing her tenure as a commissioner at the Federal Character Commission.
She described the new role as an appointment for the wider Igbo community and Nigerians from different backgrounds.
Tor reaffirmed her support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and promised to discharge her responsibilities with integrity, professionalism and dedication.
She also pledged to work closely with other members and officials of the commission to develop policies that promote fairness, equity and national development.
