The former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, believes the 2014 World Cup qualifiers final group game between Nigeria and Malawi would be tough, but tipped the Super Eagles to record victory over the Flames.
Speaking ahead of the encounter billed for September 7 in Calabar, the Osun State Football Association chairman stated that the Nigerian side will not find the Malawians easy, contrary to the believe of some soccer followers.
‘Skippo’, as he is fondly called, stated that the match being a decider would bring out the best in both sides.
He however added that experience would see the Nigerians through.
”’It is not going to be an easy match. The Malawians believe that they can upset Nigeria and that is what would be at the back of their minds, so we must not expect them to fall like a pack of cards.
”This is a World Cup qualifiers, every country wants to be at the World Cup,” the Osun state-born soccer administrator said.
He, however, expressed confidence in the Stephen Keshi-tutored lads to rise to the occasion and take the Flames to the cleaners come September 7.
”Even though I know it is going to be tough, I am so sure Nigeria will carry the day based on our pedigree and the experience of the players.”
On the Eagles’ victory against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in last Wednesday’s Mandela Cup Challenge played in Durban, the Chairman of Prime FC of Osogbo praised the team, saying that the boys did not disappoint him.
”I expected them to win the encounter because Nigeria and South Africa are not on the same level. That victory was a confirmation of superiority,” said Ogunjobi.
