West Ham United defender, Angelo Ogbonna, says most footballers who claim they don’t drink are lying, according to the London Evening Standard.
Indeed, the 27-year-old admits the West Ham squad will always celebrate a good win with a few drinks.
He feels it’s a good bonding exercise that increases team spirit. In between games isn’t the best idea, Ogbonna admits, but post-match is absolutely fine for the defender.
Ogbonna is quoted as saying by the Standard: “When you win a big game you want to celebrate, you want to have fun, you want to drink some alcohol with each other.
“It’s good for team spirit and it helps you relax. If players say they don’t drink alcohol I think most of them are lying.”
West Ham travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, a fixture that would have been viewed far differently in the past.
Last season, for instance, Chelsea were Premier League title winners and the Hammers were struggling under Sam Allardyce.
This term, the Blues have been woeful by comparison, while West Ham are pushing for the Champions League places.
Perhaps they’ll celebrate a good result in west London with a few post-match drinks.
