Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta on Friday mourn Chief Dan Okenyi, former Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly and Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development.

The governor’s condolence was contained, in a statement, by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon in Asaba.

He described the late Okenyi, who died on July 29, as a patriotic and committed public servant who served Delta with diligence and integrity.

Ho noted that Okenyi, who hailed from Ukunzu in Aniocha North Local Government, was a respected figure in the state’s public service.

According to the governor, Okenyi rose through the ranks to become Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly before his appointment as Commissioner during the administration of Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa.

“He (Okenyi) first served in the Ministry of Lands, Surveys and Urban Development and was later redeployed to the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, where he continued to display remarkable dedication to duty.

“Beyond his service in government, Okenyi was also a prominent figure in the Anioma Socio-Cultural landscape, where he served as Secretary of the Anioma Congress.

“In that role, he contributed significantly to the unity, growth, and development of the Anioma nation.

The governor said his death was a painful loss not only to his family and the people of Aniocha North but also to the entire Delta state.

“The news of the passing of Chief Dan Okenyi came to me as a rude shock.

“He was an astute administrator, a gentleman, and a devoted Deltan whose legacy of service to the state and his Anioma people will be remembered for years to come,” he said.

The governor commiserated with the Okenyi family, the people of Aniocha North, and the Anioma Congress, praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed and strength for all who mourn him.
