Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has congratulated the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr Eze Anaba, on his re-election for a second term of two years.

Oborevwori’s felicitation is contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, in Asaba on Monday.

According to him, Anaba, who was returned unopposed at the guild’s Biennial National Convention held at the weekend in Enugu, was widely applauded for his outstanding leadership and commendable track record of service.

He also extended warm congratulations to the Managing Director of The Sun newspaper, Mr Onuoha Ukeh, on his election as the Guild’s General Secretary.

He also felicitated other officers elected at the convention, including Sabastine Abu, Deputy President, Karbi Alabi, Vice President (West), Hamza Idris, Vice President (North) and Sheddy Ozoene, Vice President (East).

Others were Iyobosa Uwugiaren (Treasurer), Gabriel Akinadewo (Assistant Secretary), and Charles Kanu (Publicity Secretary), among others.

The governor lauded the “peaceful and transparent” conduct of the convention, describing it as a strong reflection of the professionalism the guild embodies.

He noted that Anaba had not only justified the confidence reposed in him, but also significantly repositioned the guild in the last two years.

He described him as a distinguished journalist and exemplary figure in the media industry.

He stated that his re-election was not only merited but also a source of encouragement to budding journalists across the country.

“Your re-election without opposition is a clear endorsement of your impactful leadership.

Your colleagues have wisely chosen continuity in excellence.

“I am confident that with the support of your team, you will deepen the guild’s relevance in national discourse and contribute meaningfully to the growth and integrity of journalism in Nigeria,” Oborevwori added.

He urged the body to continue to promote editorial independence, professional ethics, and objective reportage, stressing the need for the media to remain a strong pillar of democracy.
