NPFL: Abia Warriors seek redemption against Ranchers Bees

With the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League starting last weekend, Abia Warriors will be hoping to get their first win of the season when they file out against newly promoted side, Ranchers Bees in one of the MatchDay 2 games scheduled for today.
Abia Warriors started the season with a home draw against Kun Khalifat while it was a hard start to the elite division for Ranchers after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Ikorodu City in Lagos on the opening day.
In Owerri, Kun Khalifat will be hoping to build on their first-day result when they take on FC Barau. While Khalifat picked up a point in Aba, Barau defeated Nasarawa 3-1 in Kano.
Also on Sunday, Nasarawa United will be all out against Bendel Insurance for the maximum three points after failing to hold on to their lead against Barau in their opening game, losing 3-1 with Insurance coming from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory against Warri Wolves.
Kwara United struggled against Kano Pillars in Ilorin, banking on a last-minute goal to get a point at home against Kano Pillars and will have their work cut out with an away game against Plateau United who also started the new campaign on a losing note against Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede-led Kano Pillars would be rueing their failure to hold on against Kwara United in their opening game, throwing away a 2-0 lead to end the game 2-2 and will hope to get the victory in front of their fans against Niger Tornadoes, who defeated Enyimba 2-1 in MatchDay 1.
Meanwhile, the first Lagos derby of the season will take place on Wednesday between newly promoted side, Sporting Lagos, and Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
