The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has ordered a full investigation into allegations of extortion by immigration officers operating along the Lagos-Seme border corridor.
The directive followed viral online reports accusing some personnel of engaging in illegal practices at the busy international border route.
In a statement released in Abuja by the Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, the NIS leadership strongly condemned the alleged misconduct.
Nandap described the reported actions as unacceptable, noting that they violate the service’s code of conduct, ethical standards, and operational guidelines.
As part of immediate measures, the Comptrollers overseeing the affected commands have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Comptroller-General also directed a thorough probe to identify all officers involved and ensure that appropriate disciplinary actions are taken where necessary.
She reiterated the agency’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and efficiency in managing Nigeria’s borders.
According to her, the NIS will not tolerate any behaviour that undermines public trust or damages the institution’s integrity.
Nandap further urged members of the public to report any cases of misconduct through official communication channels, including the agency’s social media platforms.

The NIS boss assured Nigerians that the service remains focused on maintaining discipline among its personnel while facilitating lawful migration across the country’s entry and exit points.
