The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its special passport intervention programme for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, moving the closing date from September 19 to October 3, 2026.
The extension was announced following increased demand from Nigerians seeking passport services during the ongoing exercise in London and Manchester.
The Service said the decision was aimed at allowing more eligible applicants to complete their passport processing.
More Nigerians to Benefit From Extended Exercise
NIS spokesperson, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCI) Akinsola Akinlabi, said the intervention programme had recorded significant participation since its commencement.
He explained that the exercise was created to provide easier access to passport services for Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom.
According to him, despite some challenges experienced at the beginning of the programme, operations have continued smoothly.
Appointment Required for Applicants
Akinlabi said applicants must complete the required appointment process through the official website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.
He advised eligible Nigerians to attend only on their scheduled dates and come with the necessary documents.
Required documents include: completed passport application form, payment confirmation receipt, appointment confirmation slip, current passport where applicable, self-addressed return envelope.
Passport Process Remains Cashless
The Immigration Service reiterated that all passport applications and payments under the programme are fully automated.
The agency warned applicants against making unofficial payments, stressing that the exercise operates strictly on a cashless basis.
The approved passport fees remain:
- $162 for a five-year validity passport.
- $242 for a ten-year validity passport.
NIS said no additional charges are required to participate in the intervention exercise.
1,477 Nigerians Processed Within Four Days
The Service disclosed that 1,477 Nigerians had successfully completed enrolment within the first four days of the exercise.
More than half of those processed, it said, had already received their passports, which were produced and delivered to their provided addresses.
The agency said the extension became necessary because of the large number of Nigerians requesting access to the service.
Interior Ministry Supports Expansion
NIS said the extension was approved following a directive from the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The agency explained that the additional period would increase capacity and enable more applicants to benefit from the programme.
Further details about extended dates, locations and appointment arrangements will be communicated through official NIS and Nigerian High Commission platforms.

The Immigration Service thanked Nigerians in the United Kingdom for their patience and cooperation throughout the exercise.
It reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, transparent and accessible passport services for Nigerians both within the country and across the diaspora.
