A Benin High Court, on Friday, ordered the remand of one Victor Nanboya, 23, in a correctional centre for allegedly killing his nephew and niece.
The order followed an ex parte motion filed by the Police Prosecutor, Emmanuel Ekibade of the Directorate of Legal Services, Edo Police Command.
Ekibade, after citing relevant sections of the law, prayed the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre for an initial period of 14 days, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Nanboya was remanded in connection with the alleged murder of his elder sister’s two children, eight-year-old Praise Aloye and six-year-old Oghene Eze, in Etsako West LGA of the state.
During the proceeding, Nanboya admitted to committing the act, claiming that he was under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the incident.
According to the Police, the suspect took the two children into the bush under the pretext of fetching firewood, before allegedly attacking them with a machete and killing them.
Ekibade told the court in the proof of evidence that the incident occurred on August 31, in a bush at Ayogwiri Village, Etsako West LGA.
The police said the one count-charge of murder case contravened Section 242(1) of the Criminal Law of Edo, 2022.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Terry Momodu, granted the prayer and ordered that the suspect be remanded in a correctional centre for an initial period of 14 days, pending legal advice from the state director DPP.
Momodu subsequently adjourned the case to September 25.
