The Super Eagles Wednesday confirmed their superiority over Kenya as the African champions recorded their twelfth victory against the Harambee Stars in a World Cup qualifiers played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nairobi.
The Super Eagles have been dominant against the Kenyans in previous matches involving the two teams.
The two teams have played 12 matches with 10 of them ending in favour of Nigeria.
The best Kenya have done are two draws of 1-1. They are yet to win in any of their meetings against the West African giants who are also the current African champions.
On top of that, Nigeria have been so dominant that they have scored a record 30 goals against Kenya’s five in all the 12 meetings.
Of the 12 meetings, seven have been World Cup qualifiers. Yesterday’s match was the eighth World Cup qualifier between the two sides.
The two teams have met twice in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with the rest being friendly matches.
Surprisingly, the two times that Kenya have not lost have been during World Cup qualifiers.
The first time was on January 27, 1997 when Stars held Nigeria to a 1-1 tie at Kasarani in a match that was part of the qualification for the 1998 World Cup finals held in France.
The second time was on March 23 this year when Stars, against all odds, came home with a point after restricting the newly-crowned African champions to a 1-1 draw.
The draw in Calabar was significant for Kenya considering that, before then, they had lost all five matches played in Nigeria by three-goal margins.
Kenya again lost at home yesterday to the Super Eagles in yet another World Cup qualifiers match.
The first meeting between the two sides was in 1981 and it ended 3-1 in favour of Nigeria. It was an international friendly played in Lagos.
