Investors on the Nigerian Exchange recorded a combined gain of ₦2.532 trillion during the trading week as the equities market extended its upward momentum.
Weekly market figures released by Nigerian Exchange Limited showed that the benchmark All-Share Index increased by 1.60 per cent.
The index ended the week at 247,357.40 points, rising from the 243,462.13 points recorded during the previous trading week.
NGX market capitalisation also advanced by 1.61 per cent to ₦159.588 trillion from ₦157.057 trillion.
The increase translated into an estimated ₦2.532 trillion gain in the value of listed equities held by investors.
Most NGX sectoral indices ended the week in positive territory, reflecting broad improvement across several segments of the market.
However, the Consumer Goods Index declined by 3.76 per cent, while the Lotus II Index fell by 1.55 per cent.
The Growth Index recorded a 20.24 per cent drop, the Sovereign Bond Index declined by 0.14 per cent and the Commodity Index lost 1.25 per cent.
Trading activity strengthened significantly during the week as investors exchanged 4.433 billion shares valued at ₦306.143 billion across 255,589 deals.
This compared with 2.819 billion shares worth ₦182.499 billion traded in 226,729 transactions during the preceding week.
The Financial Services Industry maintained its position as the most active sector on the Nigerian stock market.
Investors traded 3.422 billion financial services shares valued at ₦207.206 billion in 117,545 deals.
The sector accounted for 77.18 per cent of the total equity volume and 67.68 per cent of the overall value traded during the week.
The Consumer Goods Industry ranked second, with 201.978 million shares worth ₦17.171 billion exchanged across 28,666 deals.
The Information and Communications Technology sector followed with 169.481 million shares valued at ₦21.194 billion in 23,107 transactions.
First HoldCo Plc, Access Holdings Plc and Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc were the three most actively traded equities.
Together, the companies recorded 2.151 billion shares worth ₦170.793 billion across 44,768 deals.
The three banking stocks contributed 48.51 per cent of the week’s total trading volume and 55.79 per cent of its value.
Market breadth closed positive, with 57 equities appreciating in price compared with 44 gainers in the previous week.
A total of 38 equities declined, up from 35 recorded a week earlier, while 51 stocks closed unchanged compared with 67 previously.
UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust was among the leading gainers, adding ₦3.55 to its share price during the week.
First HoldCo gained ₦24.55, while Unilever Nigeria rose by ₦23.95.
Cadbury Nigeria appreciated by ₦10.50, while AXA Mansard Insurance added ₦2 to its market price.
On the losers’ table, Mecure Industries declined by ₦23.05, while Royal Exchange lost 19 kobo.
Tripple Gee and Company fell by 48 kobo, SUNU Assurances Nigeria lost 40 kobo and BUA Foods declined by ₦93.90.
Meanwhile, NGX suspended trading in the shares of Aluminium Extrusion Plc from Wednesday, July 22.
The suspension followed the company’s failure to submit its audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025.
The Exchange also listed an additional 12.32 billion ordinary shares of Linkage Assurance Plc on its Daily Official List on Thursday, July 23.
Each of the newly listed Linkage Assurance shares carried a nominal value of 50 kobo.
