NFF’s dilemma: If we sack Oliseh, where is the N180m to pay him?

Despite the unsavoury attitude and dismal performances of the Super Eagles chief coach, Sunday Oliseh, in the past few weeks, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may not want to sack the Nigerian/Belgian dual citizen now.
If the NFF decides to fire Oliseh, just seven months into his contract, the cash-strapped Football Federation would have to cough out a huge amount of money as compensation, which it cannot afford at the moment.
It was gathered that, if the NFF finally sacks the former Eagles captain, the compensation for breach of contract could be as much as his salary for three years, which could come to as much as N180 million.
A source told Freedom Online at the weekend that Oliseh knows his employers want to sack him, but he will be waiting for them at FIFA.
They have to be ready to pay out his contract sum.
The technical committee of the NFF was inaugurated on Friday in Uyo, but their deliberations at their first meeting have remained top secret to further raise doubts about Oliseh’s future as Nigeria’s coach.
“Oliseh was one of the two major items on the agenda of the committee, but very little has been heard about the direction the committee has taken on this matter,” another official disclosed.
It is now expected that the NFF executive committee will meet soon to discuss the recommendations of this committee.
The Eagles coaching situation has to be resolved soon because Nigeria face two crucial AFCON 2017 qualifiers against group leaders, Egypt in March and the results could well make or mar their qualification chances to Gabon.
Last year, Nigeria failed to defend the AFCON 2013 crown they won in South Africa after they did not qualify for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
