Union Bank Football Club of Lagos, have declared that they are battle ready to defend their CBN Cup title.

Union Bank chief coach, Taiwo Enegwea, told freedomonline.com that the current form of his team would see them return to Lagos with the champions trophy.

Enegwea who won the title twice as a player in 2000 and 2002 under coaches late Austin Ofokwu and Franklyn Howard said yesterday that his target is to lead Union Bank to win the NFF/CBN Cup for a second consecutive time.

The former Super Eagles midfielder who was a member of the Flying Eagles squad to the Saudi 89 Under-20 World Cup is full of praises for the Union Bank team that defeated First Bank FC also of Lagos 2-1 in weekend’s semi final clash at the Akure Township Stadium.

Despite a one goal deficit in the first half, Union Bank players Evans Nwosu and Thomas Oluwafemi Junior scored two brilliant goals to eliminate First Bank who they had earlier defeated 1- 0 in the Owerri zonal play-off.

An elated Enegwea was full of praises for Union Bank’s Management declaring that: “The bankers management team headed by Tunde Popoola has been the secret of our success so far. Remember they had inspired us to gain promotion to the National Professional League cadre from the Nationwide league.

“First Bank proved a tough nut to crack in both games but determination from Union Bank players and motivation of the management saw us through.”

He added that: “Now with the final game against CBN in Lokoja, we are more focused on winning the title and to make Union Bank management and staff proud,” Enegwea stated as the prepare for the November 19 final in Lokoja.
