The advance party sent to Nairobi, Kenya by the Nigeria Football Federation to pave way for the comfortable stay of the Super Eagles in that country as they play against the Harambee Stars of Kenya in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.
The team from Nigeria on Monday turned down the hotel the Kenya Football Federation booked for the Nigerian team as they claim that it is substandard.
Nigeria play Kenya at the Moi International Sports Centre on Wednesday in a decisive 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier, and the Kenyans reserved the 680 Hotel at the centre of town for the Nigerian contingent.
But a member of the Nigerian advance party, which arrived early on Sunday morning in Nairobi, said that the lodgings is not suitable for the Super Eagles comfort and thus not acceptable.
“NFF’s advance party on Monday frowned at the 680 Hotel reserved for the Super Eagles,” said NFF spokesperson Ademola Olajire.
“The hotel is right in the centre of town with so much noise around it. The Nigeria Football Federation and the Nigeria High Commission are working on alternative accommodation for the African champions.”
That alternative accommodation is the La Mada Hotel which NFF officials say offers ‘seclusion, security and serenity befitting of the African champions.’
The 680 Hotel will be offered to travelling media, supporters and other officials instead.
There were no complaints however, with the training schedule offered by the FKF.
According to Olajire, the Kenyan Federation have “made arrangements for the Eagles to train at the Moi International Sports Centre at 4pm on Tuesday, but would be willing to allow them there should Coach Stephen Keshi prefer a morning work-out, according to FKF President, Sam Nyamweya.”
