Mikel storm Nairobi for Harambee Stars

mikel_obiReliable Super Eagles midfielder, Mikel Obi, finally arrived in Nairobi on Monday evening, hours ahead of the rest of the Super Eagles squad.

The Chelsea midfielder specially asked the Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi to excuse him from the Nigeria versus Mexico friendly game in Houston, Texas and that he would arrive on time for the crucial FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Kenya on Wednesday, this promise which he fulfilled on Monday as he arrived well ahead of the Eagles team that had earlier left the USA for Germany and later Ethiopia and would arrive later today.

The rest of the squad is expected to fly in from Germany and arrive at about 1:30am local time.

Obi was instrumental to Nigeria’s 3-2 defeat of the Harambee Stars at the same venue on November 14, 2009 – a result that sent the Super Eagles to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.

While Nigeria celebrate Mikel’s arrival, Kenya are sweating over the loss of no less than four key players including goalkeeper Arnold Origi, and star striker Denis Oliech.

Reserve goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng has not inspired confidence since the team started camping in Naivasha and moved to Nairobi on Sunday.
