Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a Togolese national at the Seme border in the Badagry area of Lagos for allegedly attempting to traffic banned pharmaceuticals.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was intercepted at the departure section of the border while trying to smuggle 5,000 pills of Tramadol concealed in her luggage.

In a separate operation in Lagos, NDLEA officers recovered 1,040 kilograms of skunk, a strong strain of cannabis, from an unfinished building at Akodo village in the Seaside Eleko area of Ibeju-Lekki.

In Kano State, a suspect was arrested at Lambu in Tofa Local Government Area with 1,499 bottles of codeine syrup allegedly being transported in a Volkswagen Golf car.

Another arrest was made along the Zaria–Dutsinma road in Katsina State, where a suspect was found conveying 87.4 kilograms of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus.

In Osun State, two suspects were taken into custody following the seizure of over 18 kilograms of skunk in the Aregbe area of Osogbo.

The agency also reported the interception of 637,600 opioid pills — including tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5 — along the Bali–Suntai road in Taraba State. The drugs were allegedly being transported to Baruwa in Gashaka LGA. Another operation in Lankaviri area of the state led to the arrest of a suspected dealer and the confiscation of more than 126 kilograms of skunk.

In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives recovered 499.2 kilograms of skunk in the Dei-Dei area. Meanwhile, in Borno State, a suspect was intercepted along the Bama–Konduga road with 7,000 capsules of tramadol concealed in a commercial vehicle.

The NDLEA noted that its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign remains active nationwide. Recent sensitisation programmes were held in secondary schools across Niger, Oyo, Jigawa, and Cross River states as part of efforts to discourage substance abuse among youths.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations and public awareness campaigns to curb drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
