The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Saturday advised DSTV to ensure that the alleged transgender programme planned to be aired by TLC channel would not promote undesirable ideas that would offend Nigerians.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Awwalu Salihu, Director, Public Affairs of the commission.
The NBC in the statement said that its attention had been drawn to concerns shown by some members of the public about the programme.
“The alleged planned programme to be aired by the TLC, a channel on the DSTV platform was ”I am Jazz”, the story of a transgender child.

“The commission has since drawn the attention of the service provider to this concern.

“The commission has also received firm assurances that DSTV will investigate it .

“If it confirms that the programme is indeed promoting undesirable ideas that will offend the Nigerian public, it will pull the plug on the programme,’’ it said.

The statement assured Nigerians that NBC, as the regulator of the industry, would continue to safeguard the Nigerian airwaves and ensure the peoples’ right to quality broadcasting.

It commended the concerned citizens that raised the matter for their constructive approach to the issue.

“NBC is always ready to receive complaints from the public, and we invite people to use the complaint facilities provided on the website of the commission.

“The website is www.nbc.gov.ng, to report any unprofessional or harmful broadcast,’’ the statement said.

It added that reporting such broadcast would help the commission to properly regulate the industry for the good of the society.
