NASS crisis: Terminal date of APC’s honeymoon has come, says Ndoma-Egba

The crisis in the eighth National Assembly has been traced to the coming together of various interests to form the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), said now that the party has formed the government at the centre, “the centre can no longer hold because all the groups and interests within the APC are now battling for power”.
To him, the terminal date of the honeymoon of the ruling party has come.
Ndoma-Egba, principal partner of Ndoma-Egba Ebri & co. law firm, was in the Senate for 12 years on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Cross River Central.
Speaking in Abuja at the new office of his law firm, he said: “Well, crises are bound to happen in the parliament. It is not always that you will be on honeymoon. We were lucky that for eight years, we had this prolonged honeymoon. But every honeymoon has a terminal date and apparently, that terminal date has come. They are in crisis now. But like honeymoons, crises also will have a terminal date; it will pass. I think that the APC is just adjusting to a new reality, given the way they came into being; an amalgamation of various political parties and interests. Those interests are now finding expression in the issue of the leadership of the National Assembly. But I believe that with time, everything will be resolved and they will settle down for proper legislative business”.
He advised the new lawmakers in both chambers of the National Assembly to put the interest of the country “first before any other thing for them to be able to make laws that would guarantee good governance and better the lots of the Nigerian people who elected them as their representatives”.
On President Muhammadu Buhari, he said: “From the little we have seen, I believe that he will make a difference in the governance of the country. And given his antecedents, he is a very decisive person and he is firm. Yes, those antecedents found expression in his days as military Head of State; the environment is totally different now. It is a constitutional environment. But I believe that in spite of it being a democratic environment, he will still be decisive and firm.”
