Yakubu Sambo, coach of NAF Football Club of Abuja says he is feeling uncomfortable with the fact they have recorded three consecutive draws in the 2022/2023 Nigeria National League (NNL).
NAF FC drew goalless on Saturday with visiting Katsina United FC in the Northern Conference Group A2 of the ongoing 2022/2023 NNL
The result in the Match Day 3 fixture at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja was their third straight draw in the competition.
Sambo said the result was one they did not bargain for as they were prepared to win the three points at stake.
“We are now having three points from three matches, but that is not what we prepared for.
“I am not satisfied and not comfortable with this. It is our third match this season and all we have played have been goalless both home and away,” he said.
The coach said the result was disappointing because they were quick to read their opponents’ plans.
“Our opponents also came with the same purpose to win, but we were able to detect their moves as the game went on.
”So, it was a game we were supposed to win not draw,” he said.
Sambo however said they would keep their eyes firmly on the ball in order to achieve set targets.
“We will go back and prepare harder for our remaining matches, and particularly the away matches, to ensures that we achieve our target.
”We have to be winning, because our quest is to be among those who will qualify for the Super 8 phase of the league,” he said.
NAN reports that during the match on Saturday, Katsina United had quickly come out and looked strong to score first.
But NAF FC stood too strong defensively to break down for the visitors who now have two wins and one draw from three matches.
Speaking on the performance of Katsina United FC, the club’s Team Manager, Usman Abdallah, said playing against NAF FC had gone on to show that his team was doing well.
“I give the thumbs up to our coaching crew because they have prepared well, worked harder and kept to the strategies, and this is why the results are coming out.
“I am happy with the results, even though I would have loved to have the three points against NAF FC. But all the same, we are going back with something,” he said.
Abdallah however lamented the state of the Area 3 pitch, saying the field did not help his team to show their full potential.
“We need a good field to express ourselves well in terms of performance.
“But we won’t mind that, as our focus is to pick the ticket to the NNL Super 8 and to get back to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) again,” he said.
NAN reports that Katsina United FC will take on Jigawa Golden Stars FC of Hadeija on April 9 in their Match Day 4 fixture.
On their part, NAF FC will face Green Beret FC of Zaria on Saturday.
