NADUHS backs resident doctors’ strike

The National Association of Doctors in University Health Services (NADUHS) has reaffirmed its full support for the ongoing strike led by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

The National President of NADUHS, Dr Hassan Musa, said this in an interview with our Correspondent  on Monday in Bauchi.

Musa dismissed as false and misleading a recent publication titled “Tertiary Institutions Health Workers Shun Strike,” describing it as an attempt to misinform the public about the true position of medical doctors in tertiary institutions.

He clarified that the so-called Coalition of Healthcare Professionals in Tertiary Education Institutions referenced in the report is “an unregistered and amorphous entity” with no legal standing or recognition under Nigerian law.

According to him, NADUHS remains the only legally recognised professional body representing doctors in university health services nationwide.

“NADUHS operates under the umbrella of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), alongside NARD and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN),” Musa said.

He explained that the ongoing industrial action represented a legitimate demand for improved welfare, payment of arrears, and resolution of long-standing issues affecting medical practitioners across Nigeria.

Musa further disclosed that NADUHS was in active engagement with the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to ensure the settlement of CONMESS arrears owed to its members.

He urged the media and the general public to disregard unauthorised statements from unrecognised groups and rely solely on legitimate professional associations for accurate information regarding doctors in tertiary health institutions.

“We stand firmly with NARD and remain committed to advocating for the welfare, rights, and dignity of all doctors in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions,” Musa emphasised.
