House of Representatives Committee on Water Resources has summoned the management of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRBDA) Yola, Adamawa State to appear before it in Abuja to explain how the authority expended over N2 billion appropriated for 2012.

Chairman of the committee, Honorable Aliyu Ahmed Pategi, gave the order in Yola, during an oversight function visit to projects in various federal constituencies.

Pategi, who led a nine-member committee, expressed dissatisfaction over what they discovered in Adamawa State, even as he said that the authority and contractors handling the projects needed to be upright in view of the money allocated to them to carry out projects in their domains.

He maintained that the management of UBRBDA is also expected to report to the committee, the total number of hand pumps and solar boreholes constructed in Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency and copies of 2012 Capital Project liability capital releases and implementation status plus Capital Account from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) respectively.

He said: “Members of the Committee are in Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, Yola to intimate ourselves as a committee on Water Resources with activities of the authority and to know the value of money appropriated to the authority and how the money was expended for the sake of transparency”.

The team inspected some motorised hand pumps and solar boreholes built by the authority at selected areas of Wuro-Hausa, Kofar-Bayi and Fattude wards in Yola South and North Local Government Areas.

Also inspected were boreholes at Nigeria Air force Barracks and Federal Government Girls College, Yola among others.
