N100 protest: Three UNIUYO students shot dead


uniuyo_gateTHREE students of the University of Uyo were on Wednesday shot dead during a protest.

Students of the Engineering and Science Faculties started the protest against the decision of the school management that they should pay N100 each everyday for them to be ferried from the town campus to the permanent site at Nsukara Offot via school buses.

The students locked all the gates to the campus and stormed classes to stop lecturers.

Policemen were called to disperse them and the crisis started.

The policemen were firing tear gas and the students started pelting them with stones.

The three students were hit by live bullets and they died on the spot.

Students went wild thereafter, setting the main gate, Vice Chancellor’s office and female hostels ablaze.

The school was shut immediately.
