MTN to NCC: Please let’s pay $1.5 billion, $3.9bn too high

South Africa’s MTN Group has proposed a $1.51 billion (N300bn) payments to settle a $3.9 billion fine in Nigeria, a document released shows.
In the document, the MTN Group pleaded that the $3.9 billion was too high for it to pay and if the firm is eventually forced to pay it, it would affect its businesses, not just in Nigeria but also in Africa.
MTN was handed the penalty in October, 2015 by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), for missing the deadline to disconnect users with unregistered SIM cards.
The telecommunications giant had already paid N50 billion but this action is already generating controversy.
On Thursday, the Senate asked the firm who or which agency of government collected the money.
