MTN Nigeria is taking its customer engagement initiative, Data on Trial, to Abuja as questions surrounding mobile data consumption, billing accuracy and transparency continue to attract attention among telecommunications subscribers.

The company announced that the next edition would take place on October 26, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, alongside activities marking the Nigerian Economic Summit.

In a statement released on Friday, October 23, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), MTN said the event would provide an opportunity for customers and industry stakeholders to openly examine concerns about mobile internet services.

The forum is expected to attract government policymakers, telecommunications executives, journalists, technology specialists, consumer rights advocates and other industry representatives.

MTN Executives to Answer Questions on Data Consumption

Unlike a conventional industry conference, the Data on Trial initiative adopts a courtroom-style format designed to encourage open discussion and accountability.

Under the arrangement, journalists, social media influencers and consumer advocates will present questions and arguments reflecting subscribers’ concerns.

Senior MTN executives will respond to the issues raised, while an independent assessor will consider the arguments presented by both sides.

The company said the approach was intended to encourage constructive dialogue about how mobile data is consumed, measured and billed.

It also aims to improve public understanding of telecommunications services and strengthen confidence between operators and subscribers.

Data Depletion and Billing Transparency Take Centre Stage

Concerns about how quickly mobile data bundles are exhausted have remained an important issue for Nigerian internet users.

With more people relying on smartphones for business, education, banking, entertainment and communication, understanding how data is used has become increasingly important.

MTN acknowledged the need for telecommunications companies to communicate more clearly with customers about data consumption and respond effectively to complaints.

The Abuja engagement will provide a platform for examining consumer experiences, discussing billing transparency and exploring ways to improve service communication.

The company said meaningful engagement between operators and subscribers was necessary to address changing expectations in Nigeria’s digital economy.

Abuja Event Follows Lagos and Zaria Sessions

The forthcoming Abuja edition is the third location announced for the Data on Trial initiative.

According to MTN, the programme previously held in Lagos in June 2026 before moving to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in September.

The company said the decision to extend the engagement to Abuja reflects its commitment to maintaining discussions with consumers and other telecommunications stakeholders.

By bringing the conversation to different locations, MTN hopes to gather broader perspectives on subscribers’ experiences and the challenges associated with mobile data services.

Telecom Stakeholders to Discuss Consumer Trust

The Abuja forum will also examine the relationship between telecommunications providers and their customers as demand for internet connectivity continues to grow.

Participants are expected to consider how clearer information about data usage, improved customer support and open communication could help address misunderstandings and complaints.

MTN maintained that continued engagement with consumers, regulators and industry professionals would be important in improving the overall mobile data experience.

The October 26 event is expected to provide another opportunity for subscribers’ concerns to be presented directly to company representatives.
