Mother of triplets cries out for help as husband absconds

babyThe joy of Mrs Ifeoma Odo of Ebo Umuabor in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State could turn to tears after her husband absconded on hearing that she was in labour for triplets.

Odo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka on Friday that her husband, Mr John-Patrick Odo, disappeared when he realised she would give birth to triplets.

“It’s been seven days since I put to bed yet I have not seen my husband.

“Several attempts to reach him through his phone has failed as he switched off his mobile phone.

“I know he has no job but that should not be the reason for him to abandon me and the babies,” she said of her husband of three years.

Odo appealed to the government and good spirited individuals to come to the aid of the triplets, saying they require a lot of care to survive having been born pre-term.

“I will be very grateful to all who offer financial help to me and my babies at this difficult moment,’’ she said.

She thanked God for the triplets in her first pregnancy and for being able to deliver them normally.

“I thank God for this special blessing of triplets; I know God will use people to provide for the upkeep of these babies.”

Mr Andrew Odo, the younger brother to Odo’s husband, confirmed that his brother disappeared after he was told that the wife would give birth to triplets.

“I and my sisters have been helping the wife with the little money we have since she gave birth to the triplets.

“We are pleading with the government and other individuals to come to the rescue of the family,’’ he said.

“My older brother disappeared after he was told that the wife was expecting triplets, possibly because he has no money to take care of them.

“We have also informed the councillor representing us in Nsukka local government but till now we have not seen him,’’ he said.

When contacted, the councillor representing the area, Mr Maduabuchi Eze, confirmed that he had been informed by the family.

He, however, said that he was planning to take the issue to the Chairman of the local government, Mr Tony Ugwu, for possible assistance.

“I have been informed about the woman who gave birth to triplets though I have not visited the family.

“The man may have disappeared because he has no money to take care of the babies,” Eze said.
