French Ligue 1 club giant, AS Monaco, have joined the league of top European clubs chasing Super Eagles assistant captain, Mikel Obi to secure his services.
Before the latest development, Turkish clubs, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor are the others linked with a summer swoop for the Chelsea midfield player.
“Monaco are showing interest in Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel who has attracted offers from Galatasaray and Trabzonspor.”
But Mikel still has a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge in spite of an uncertain future with the Europa League champions.
The 26-year-old has already stated he cannot influence any decision on his future since he is still contracted to Chelsea.
“I have a four-year contract with Chelsea, but you know, in football you can never guess, one day you are here, the next day you might leave,” Mikel said earlier this month.
Mikel has already spent six years at Stamford Bridge and Galatasaray are reported to have made a formal approach for the midfield player with AS Monaco and Trabzonspor also ready to pounce.
AS Monaco have gone on a spending spree signing Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho, Ricardo Carvalho and Colombian midfielder, James Rodriguez with Russian billionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev, breaking the bank.
Amid the latest interest from France, Chelsea have left out Mikel from their squad that travelled to Asia for the first leg of their pre-season tour in Thailand.
The Blues named a 24-man squad of 17 full international players including Nigeria winger, Victor Moses.
