Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, recently celebrated his 60th birthday, marking a milestone that goes beyond his years. Idris, a respected fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has built a distinguished career rooted in public service and nation-building.

In a heartfelt tribute, his media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, highlighted Idris’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s development, particularly through his strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Ibrahim described the minister as a tireless advocate for good governance, economic growth, and social progress, noting his crucial role in driving positive change in the country’s information and communications sectors.

Ibrahim also emphasized Idris’s loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his gratitude for the trust placed in him by President Tinubu, who personally honored Idris’s work. The President praised him as “a steadfast steward of public trust, a bridge-builder, and a beacon of integrity” in national communication. Tinubu’s tribute further commended Idris for his professionalism, which has strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and renewed hope among Nigerians.

A testament to Idris’s contributions to the media industry, the recent recognition of him as Spokesman of the Year 2026 by Vanguard Newspaper underscores his lasting influence and exceptional dedication to the field. His significant investments in the media sector have enriched the landscape, giving him unique insight into its challenges and opportunities.

Perhaps the most notable achievement of this week was the inauguration of the UNESCO International Media and Information Literacy Institute (IMILI) in Abuja, a project that Idris championed. This development, coinciding with his 60th birthday, highlights his commitment to empowering Nigerians with vital media literacy skills in an increasingly complex information landscape.

As Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris has exhibited exemplary leadership, focusing on transparency, credibility, and inclusivity. His international media engagements have enhanced Nigeria’s global narrative, representing the country with tact and diplomacy. His leadership style has fostered a culture of open communication, placing a premium on truth, relevance, and respect for the intelligence of Nigerians.

Idris’s tenure has also reinvigorated the Federal Ministry of Information, fostering unity and trust among staff, as well as promoting a collaborative spirit with all agency heads. His leadership continues to inspire hope and enthusiasm within the ministry, driving its mission of responsible and effective public messaging.

Idris has also remained a dedicated advocate for his home state, Niger, applying his expertise and influence to drive development in the region. As he marks this milestone, his legacy in both national and regional development remains a lasting testament to his vision and leadership.
