chinedu_neboThe Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has ordered the new  board of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ensure improved power supply by June.

Nebo, who gave the order on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration of the TCN board, said it was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan‘s directive.

“I wish to charge the principal sector players here today to ensure that power supply to our customers is significantly and visibly improved by June this year as directed by Mr President.

“ Much is expected of us all and the entire nation is waiting for us,’’ he said.

He said the Federal Government had already committed a lot to the power sector and would not tolerate any excuses for non-performance from any of the stakeholders in the sector.

He described the TCN as critical to the success of the power sector reform and the transformation agenda for the sector.

He specifically ordered the TCN Board Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Waziri, to reposition the company to ensure efficiency and professionalism.

Waziri, in his response, thanked Jonathan for the opportunity given the members to serve the nation, especially at a time the power sector was going through critical reforms.

He described the sector as critical to the growth of the economy, and pledged to fast-track transformation of the sector.

“It is with a deep sense of honour and privilege that I humbly accept this important national assignment to serve as chairman of the TCN.

“ I am grateful to God and to the president for the opportunity to serve our country at such a critical and defining moment in the transformation of our power sector.’’

Waziri holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

He was the Group Executive Director, Corporate Services, at the NNPC between 2003 and 2009.

He also served as Director, Bonny Gas Transport Ltd; Deputy Managing Director, Nigeria LNG Ltd and Executive Director at the Nigeria Gas Company Ltd and the Pipeline and Product Marketing Company.
