Mimiko: No plan to impeach my deputy‏

olusegun_mimiko2Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, on Monday, denied the allegation that the House of Assembly has started impeachment process of his deputy, Alhaji Ali Olanusi.

The governor, who spoke against the background of a rumoured move to remove the deputy governor on account of ill-health and old age, said the insinuation was wrong and baseless.

Mimiko said the statement was the handiwork of detractors of government, who were bent on distracting and cause confusion between him and his deputy.

He said he was not aware of any plan to impeach his deputy, adding that the two of them had been having good working relationship.

His words: “I was surprised to hear that the Assembly is planning to begin impeachment process against the deputy governor, no such plan is in the offing in Ondo State. I am not aware of any of such move.

“People float ideas for whatever reason they like, but this is an unsubstantiated statement and the Assembly has no plan to remove the deputy governor for whatever reason best known to the people behind the rumour”.

The clarification by the governor became necessary following reports in some sections of the media that the deputy governor may be impeached on health ground.
