Glo shines at Ghana Telecoms Awards, adjudged Fastest Growing Network, Most Innovative

glo_logoGlobacom has confirmed its leadership position in Ghana as its subsidiary, Glo Mobile Ghana was adjudged the Fastest Growing Telecommunications Network by the the prestigious Ghana Telecoms Awards (GTA) over the weekend.

Globacom was also adjudged at the Awards as the telecoms company with the Most Innovative Product in the year 2012 in Ghana, due to the phenomenal success of Glo Biiiig 5, a promo it introduced in the last quarter of last year.

Glo began commercial business in Ghana on April 29th 2012, at a time when market watchers and all the experts considered Ghana’s telecoms sector as being overly saturated and without any room for a new player. The company took its chances, and with determination and customer-centric offerings, has succeeded in wrestling an enviable chunk of the market for itself.

Ahead of its launch, Glo Mobile Ghana had successfully reserved 1.7 numbers for subscription, and in the span of just 90 days following its commencement of operations, it registered over one million active subscribers, according to Ghana’s telecoms regulatory agency, the National Communications Authority.

This unprecedented feat was achieved notwithstanding the new SIM Card registration regulation which forbids instant subscription by customers since 2012.

Glo Mobile Ghana has grown steadily since it launched 14 months ago and as at the close of April was listed by the NCA as commanding an active subscriber base of 2.47 million.

The award-winning ‘Glo Biiiig 5’ product on the other hand, is an innovative tariff plan on which all Glo customers instantly receive five times usage credit for the value of every respective recharge made.

When a subscriber loads GHC1 credit (equivalent of about N100) on his Glo line, he is automatically credited with GHC 5 (about N500) worth of credit and with the additional credit, the customer can call any network in Ghana, send SMS and browse the internet. In addition, customers can enjoy extra browsing time online with bonus credit earned on Biiiiig 5.

While receiving the awards, Dhirendra Surve, Head of Marketing at Glo Mobile Ghana, said the entire Management and staff of Glo are grateful for the recognition of the effort Glo is making to deliver optimum network experience and satisfaction to its customers.

“Since the essence of such recognition is to encourage us to achieve more, we at Glo assure you that we will work even harder to exceed the expectations of our cherished customers and the general public,’ said Dhirendra.

Organized by the United Kingdom-based Mobile World Magazine, the annual Ghana Telecom Awards (GTA) is the biggest platform for celebrating and recognizing excellence and achievement in Ghana’s telecommunications sector.
