Media Trust Group, publishers of Daily Trust newspapers and owners of Trust TV, Trust Radio and other media platforms, will on Thursday, October 22, launch its Converged Digital Newsroom, a technology-driven initiative designed to transform how the Group gathers, produces and distributes news across its platforms.

The initiative brings together editorial operations across Daily Trust, Trust TV, Trust Radio, Aminiya, Digital Trust and other platforms in a more integrated newsroom, enabling journalists to collaborate, share resources and deliver timely, relevant and engaging content to audiences across multiple channels.

The newsroom will leverage digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools, to support editorial workflows, content production, news distribution and audience insights. These capabilities will enhance efficiency and collaboration while keeping editorial judgement, verification and accountability firmly in the hands of journalists.

Speaking ahead of the launch, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed I. Shekarau, said the converged newsroom represents a strategic step towards building a more connected, responsive and sustainable media organisation.

“The future of the media lies in our ability to understand and serve our audiences better. By bringing our platforms together, we are strengthening our capacity to deliver credible journalism, respond to changing audience needs and make our content more accessible across different channels.

“This is an investment in the future of the Media Trust Group, positioning us to take advantage of technological innovation, deepen our relationship with audiences and create greater value for our commercial partners,” he said.

The Group Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief, Ibrahim Shehu Adamu, said the initiative would encourage closer collaboration among journalists and editors while enabling the Group to tell stories more effectively across print, broadcast and digital platforms.

“Our audiences do not consume news in the same way or on the same platform. Our responsibility is to meet them where they are, with credible, relevant and engaging journalism. The converged newsroom allows us to bring the strengths of our different platforms together, improve editorial coordination and deliver a richer news experience.

“Technology, including AI-powered tools, will support this transformation by helping us work more efficiently, streamline newsroom processes and respond faster to developing stories. However, our commitment to accuracy, editorial independence and public-interest journalism remains unchanged,” he said.

*Better for audiences, greater value for advertisers*

For readers, viewers and listeners, the converged newsroom will support more coordinated news coverage, richer multimedia storytelling and easier access to news, analysis, interviews, video and audio content across the Group’s platforms. It will also strengthen the Group’s ability to respond to audience interests and feedback, particularly as more Nigerians consume news through mobile devices and digital channels.

For advertisers and commercial partners, the integration creates opportunities for coordinated, cross-platform campaigns spanning newspapers, television, radio and digital media. By combining the strengths of its brands with a deeper understanding of audience behaviour, Media Trust Group aims to deliver more effective brand storytelling, wider audience engagement and improved campaign measurement.

The initiative forms part of the Group’s broader strategy to build a digitally driven, audience-focused and commercially sustainable media organisation, leveraging technology and innovation to strengthen journalism and respond to the changing demands of the media industry.
