Mba set to move to Bastia

Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Mba is expected to make a much-awaited move to Europe this week by joining French club Bastia.

A close source to the scorer of the only goal that gave Nigeria the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations against Burkina Faso in February said Mba will move to the modest French club.

The source said: “Last week, Sunday completed his travel documents to go and sign for Bastia in the French top flight.

“He is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 outfit this week, but I don’t have the other details of the contract.”

Incidentally, Bastia, who groomed the likes of Michael Essien and Alex Song, had come very close to signing another Eagles star Godfrey Oboabona before he finally signed for Turkish club Rizespor.

The move by Mba will bring to three the number of home-based players who featured for the Super Eagles at the Nations Cup who have since moved on to greener pastures in Europe.

Gabriel Reuben joined Kilmarnock after the Nations Cup alongside Papa Idris, while only last week Godfrey Oboabona moved to Turkey.

Goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim and Azubike Egwuekwe are the only other players yet to sign a deal in Europe.
