The Senate President, David Mark, on Saturday described the Super Eagles of Nigeria as worthy and dependable ambassadors for qualifying for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) semi-finals in South Africa.
This is contained in a congratulatory message issued in Abuja by Mark’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Paul Mumeh, following the team’s resurgent 4-3 triumph over the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
Mark noted that the Nigerian representatives lived up to expectations in the encounter with the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
He, therefore, urged the players not to leave anything to chance in the campaign to win the trophy for Nigeria.
“Coming from behind at three goals down to beat your Moroccan counterparts is a proof of your professionalism and determination.
“This is miraculous. I am proud of you, and the nation is proud of you.
“I earnestly assure you that your labour will not be in vain. Nigeria will reward you handsomely,” Mark promised.
Similarly, the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, has congratulated the Super Eagles for booking a semi-final place at CHAN 2014.
Ekweremadu’s congratulatory message was issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Uche Anichukwu.
He commended the Eagles for showing enormous character and determination in the second half and extra time of the game.
“The Super Eagles have just rekindled reminiscences of the `Damman Miracle’ at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in which Nigeria upturned a four-goal deficit to beat the defunct Soviet Union in a breathtaking quarter-final encounter.
“Indeed, for Nigeria and African football, this is a comeback of the past two decades and I commend the Eagles for their unmatchable resurgent spirit and doggedness.
“It is also my prayer that Nigerians and indeed our political elite learn the lessons implicit in this victory — that Nigeria can always overcome her challenges, if we all work together,’’ the Deputy Senate President said.
Ekweremadu urged Nigerians to pray for the Super Eagles and advised the coaching crew to work on the team’s defence to ensure that they win the trophy.
