The Flames of Malawi team captain, James Sangala, said on Friday in Calabar ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifiers game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria that the African champions can fall right in front of their home fans.
Sangala, 32, who said the Flames do not fear the Eagles would lead the team out against Nigeria in Saturday’s game and insisted that fear will only hold them back.
“It is clear that, Nigeria are African champions and have to respect that. We have respect for them but we don’t fear them,” Sangala said. “Fear is the enemy of success, so we have taken the fear out of us.
“We have been preparing for this game for a long time and we know what we have to do. We have the team to fall the Nigerian team.”
“Every eye will be on Nigeria. And that takes a little bit of pressure away from us,” he said.
“Obviously, the Nigerians are used to this but they will still be under pressure.
We have accepted to wear this jacket of underdogs and I know that they know it is dangerous to undermine us,” he added.
